Terms of Service
Last updated: November 1, 2026. These terms are between you and Aleksandr Kozlov, trading as KafDesk, Yerevan, Armenia ("we").
1. The software
KafDesk is a desktop client for Apache Kafka for macOS, Windows and Linux. We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it under the plan you have: the 14-day trial, Personal or Team.
2. Trial
The app includes a 14-day free trial that runs on your computer. It needs no account and no payment details. When it ends, the app asks for a licence key before it changes anything on a cluster.
3. Licences
- Personal is a one-time purchase for one person, on up to 3 of that person's devices. It includes updates for one year. After that year, every version released during it keeps working for good; renewing gives another year of updates.
- Team is an annual subscription per seat. Seats can be assigned to members of your organisation and moved between them. When a subscription ends, its keys stop working after a 7-day grace period.
- Free licences for open-source maintainers and students are granted by email at our discretion.
The app checks its licence key with Polar about once a day and keeps working offline for up to 30 days between checks.
4. Purchases
KafDesk licences are sold by Polar (Polar Software, Inc.), our reseller and merchant of record, whose buyer terms apply to your purchase. Team subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel; you can cancel at any time and keep the seats until the end of the paid period. Refunds are described in the refund policy.
5. Your clusters and your responsibility
KafDesk acts on your Kafka clusters, Schema Registry and Kafka Connect with your credentials and only when you tell it to, or when an AI agent you connected asks and you allowed it. You are responsible for the actions you take, such as producing messages, changing configurations, deleting topics or records and resetting offsets. Mark production clusters as protected and review changes before you apply them.
6. Acceptable use
Do not share licence keys outside the plan you bought, circumvent the licence checks, or use KafDesk to access systems you are not allowed to access.
7. Changes and availability
We may change features and these terms; material changes are announced in the changelog or by email. KafDesk works without our servers.
8. Warranty and liability
KafDesk is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including lost data or downtime of your clusters, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for KafDesk in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, or your rights as a consumer.
9. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Armenia. Disputes go to the competent courts of Yerevan, Armenia, unless the law of your country gives you the right to bring them where you live.
